Work Permit

If you are from another country and you want to do a job in Canada, you need to apply for the workmen’s visa or work permit.  There are different kinds of work permits:

Work permits may be applied for people applying to work under varied categories:
  1. Temporary worker.
  2. Business people ( business people, professionals, inter-company transfers).
  3. Students ( for work during studies- on-campus, off-campus,co -op or even for work after studies).

1. Temporary workers

There are two types of work permits: Open work permit and employer specific work permit. Incase of open work permit , as the name suggests you can work for any employer except if the employer is ineligible.

Employer specific work permit, allows you to work for the specific employers as in the permit and that too under the terms and conditions marked in the work permit ( namely: work scope hours , location, etc).

2. Business people:

Not everyone visiting to Canada on business may need a work permit.
Business visitors if they are not being part of Canadian labour market, do not need a work permit.

To work as a professional in Canada, you must have a work permit in addition to the job offer by a Canadian employer and to be able to work for jobs set out in NAFTA.

For internal company transfers, you have had worked in the same company in a different country for at least one year in the past three years on an ongoing basis. The company should be ready to transfer you to Canada for small term with same or similar employer and you need to bring in some specific skills set.

3. Students:

We need to access your case to check eligibility for on- campus, off- campus and even after studies. Not only this, you can also invite your spouse to accompany you for your studies.
